The opportunity
As Principal ESD Lead, you will be the driving force behind sustainable design strategies across a diverse portfolio of projects. You will lead the Perth sustainability team, working closely with clients, architects, and fellow engineers to deliver environmentally innovative solutions across commercial, education, health, and residential sectors.
This is a key leadership role with responsibility for both project delivery and team development – perfect for someone ready to take the next step in their sustainability career while contributing to the broader built environment agenda in Western Australia.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading the delivery of ESD and sustainable building projects, from concept to completion
- Managing client relationships and developing new business opportunities in the Perth and broader WA market
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to integrate sustainability goals into the broader project strategy
- Contributing to the firm's national sustainability leadership and supporting technical excellence across the team
- Mentoring and developing junior team members and promoting knowledge-sharing
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of sustainability frameworks, including Green Star, NABERS, WELL and NCC Section J
You are a senior sustainability specialist with strong technical capabilities, confident in both the consultancy environment and client-facing settings. You lead by example, combining a passion for climate-conscious design with strong commercial and communication skills.
You’re confident working at the intersection of sustainability, social impact, and governance – and you’re passionate about creating a more equitable, climate-resilient future.
In addition, you will have:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Environmental Design, or a related discipline
- Significant experience working in sustainability and building performance within the built environment
- Accreditation in Green Star, NABERS, WELL or other sustainability rating tools
- Confidence using relevant software tools such as IES or similar
- Demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to build and mentor high-performing teams
- A proactive, collaborative, and curious mindset, always striving to push sustainability further
